Extension granted Courthouse Hotel project

After an executive session Tuesday night, the Oconee County Council voted to allow more time to the courthouse hotel developers.  A due diligence agreement was to have expired next week, but the council has extended the agreement with Tom Markovich and Herb Witter until April 15, 2017.  Markovich told 101.7/WGOG NEWS, . “The due diligence period is a time allotted for Herb and I to carry out investigations and also pursue the process of getting the courthouse listed on the historic register and have our plans for redevelopment approved. Our due diligence period was going to expire on November 9th and we still need to get our plans approved and we are still waiting on part of the environmental assessment to be completed. The environmental report consists of two parts–one part evaluates the building itself and the other part evaluates the ground outside the building. We are still waiting on the part dealing with the grounds.”  Markovich said he and his partner appreciate the council for working with them.
