Fair Play fire under investigation

Oconee County authorities are investigating a home fire late yesterday afternoon on the Dairy Farm Road in the Fair Play community.  Shortly after 5 o’clock, fire fighters encountered fire and smoke coming from the front of that house.  Nearly 30 fire fighters from Fair Play, Crossroads, South Union, and Oakway were able to bring a stop to the fire within 10 minutes.  No one was hurt, but a family of two adults and five children required temporary housing and other assistance to meet immediate needs.  Oconee Fire Chief Charlie King says it’s not clear if the home had working smoke detectors. King said, “We STRONGLY encourage every homeowner to ensure they have working smoke detectors placed in their homes. These small, inexpensive devices are proven lifesavers. Oconee County provides detectors and installation to those in need. You can access this program by contacting our office at (864)-638-4220.”
