Finding different tree for the medians

Those miniature yellow flags in the set aside dirt areas along the path of Walhalla Streetscape mark the locations for the trees that are to be planted to provide shade and better aesthetics for all the new sidewalk concrete and Main Street asphalt.  But the president of Partners for Progress says the state DOT has reservations about the choice of Nuttall Oak trees for the medians.   Dan Pollock says the Department of Transportation regards the Nuttall Oaks as too large when at full maturity and the potential for the tree’s roots to damage the curb and paving.  At this point, the Partners’ president, says his group is working with the state toward an acceptable alternative type of tree.
