Fire destroys Walhalla home

The cause for a fire that destroyed a home at Walhalla yesterday afternoon is listed this morning “undetermined,” according to the fire department.   The fire burned a small home at 505 Playground Road, at the corner of S. Lovingood Avenue.  Its occupant, Mildred Simmons, spent the night with family members.   She’s also benefiting from assistance from the Oconee Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Simmons was not home when the fire started.  Chief Doug Kelley said at the time she had taken her pet dogs to a veterinarian.  The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen.
