Fire UPDATE

The clubhouse in a Lake Keowee home development near Walhalla lay in ruins this morning—the result of an early morning fire that, at this point, fire fighters are unsure why.  An investigation team from Oconee County was scheduled to join the remaining fire crews at the Waterside Crossing subdivision on SC 183/the Walhalla-Pickens Highway.  The first fire call was received around 2 this morning, and Chief Richie Caudle of te Keowee Fire Department says the first set of fire fighters encountered flames.  Caudle said it’s possible the fire had been burning for 20 or more minutes.  One fire fighter and subdivision resident, Bo Horn, said the damage could approximate $1 million.
