First day attendance at 10,720

From what the district superintendent could gather by early afternoon today, the opening of Oconee public schools for the new year went smoothly. And the first day attendance at all schools across the county numbered 10, 720 students. That apparently is a raw number, very raw, and subject to change.  Dr. Michael Lucas says he visited all schools in the Walhalla and Tamassee-Salem areas and received good reports from the others. Last year’s day one enrollment was 10,391.
