Former Clemson Student Sentenced

A former Clemson Student has been sentenced to 20 years following a guilty plea in the case of a DUI involving a death. 21 year old Patrick Michael McCool of Vienna, VA entered a guilty plea in the case involving an October 2012 accident which claimed the life of 22 year old Clemson Senior Tyler Sands of Pennsylvania. McCool was the driver of the car which hit a tree on Shiloh Road, killing the passenger Tyler Sands. Both men were legally drunk at the time. The sentence of 20 years is the maximum under state law, but McCools sentence has been suspended to 5 years to be served and 5 years probation.
