Foundation to help Oconee public safety responders

Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw and U-S Senator Lindsey Graham are creating a foundation to help the county’s public safety responders.  Graham made the announcement at a luncheon today to honor police, fire fighters and other emergency responders.  Seneca’s New Haven Baptist Church, with the help of restaurants, treated the public safety responder community to a luncheon and speakers who imparted words of support to those who put their lives on the line.  Crenshaw issued this statement:  “I have been thinking about a Sheriff’s Foundation for some time. I would use the money to offer scholarships to current employees wishing to pursue their bachelor’s or master’s degrees along with possibly offering scholarships to children of employees pursuing a degree in a law enforcement related career. We could also purchase things like bullet proof vests for the officers. We currently have vests but some are reaching their expiration dates of being guaranteed. It would be another way to help retain and train our employees without using tax dollars….”
