Greenfield helps assure future job pipeline

A Fair Play boy, Calvin Roach, is one example of a youngster who is earning while he’s learning.  And the youth apprentice program with which Calvin is affiliated marked a successful one-year anniversary today with a luncheon and a tour at the cutting tool maker Greenfield Industries in Oconee County.  Calvin was one of nine youth apprentices to be recognized, and he told us that he would be interested in an adult working career at the recently expanded manufacturing operation on 123 between Seneca and Clemson.  Among those making remarks at the event were Anthony Tosti, chief financial officer for Greenfield, and Carla Whitlock of the program Apprenticeship South Carolina.  It has been Tosti’s experience that European countries are way ahead of the U-S when it comes to tutoring its young for a future in industrial manufacturing.  But thanks to Greenfield and its Oconee County partners the U-S can start to play catch up.
