Haley to testify to Homeland Security subcommittee

Congressman Jeff Duncan says he will welcome the testimony this week of Governor Nikki Haley at a security-related hearing this week in Washington.  It’s a Homeland Security subcommittee, and the topic is “Transferring Guantanamo Bay Detainess to the Homeland:  Implications for States and Local Communities. Duncan (SC-03) released the following statement in preparation for Thursday’s hearing:  “I’m pleased to have Gov. Haley testify on the possibility of the Obama Administration moving detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the Naval Consolidated Brig in Charleston, SC. She has been vocal in her opposition to this transfer from the beginning and will provide a Governor’s perspective on this important issue. It is essential that all levels of government speak out against this foolish and illegal idea. The President is looking to fulfill campaign promises at the expense of national security, and I’m hopeful that Gov. Haley’s testimony will expose the short sightedness of the President’s proposal. No state deserves to become a terrorist dumping ground, which is why I have filed H Res 617 that would empower Congress to block the transfers should the President attempt to violate the law.”
