Hart to make new run at Oconee County Council

A land surveyor near Seneca will make a new run this year for a seat on the Oconee County Council.  Glenn Hart, resident of Friendship community, says he will be a Republican candidate for Seat 5, Oconee County Council when candidate qualifying opens next month.  Hart said he’d like a seat on the policy making board of county government for the chance to help ease red tape that home builders encounter.  Hart ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2012 as an independent candidate.  He and many other candidates statewide were removed from their party’s primary election ballot by the state Supreme Court when the court ruled in a case from Florence County that candidates who failed to file a paper copy of statements of economic interest along with statements of intention had been improperly certified.  The Republicans’ primary was cancelled and incumbent candidates were automatically placed on the General Election Ballot in November.  Disqualified primary candidates, such as Hart, were required to collect petition signatures before they were allowed to run as ballot candidates that November.
