BHP routs Pendleton; Walhalla and Seneca lose

Belton-Honea Path turned three Pendleton turnovers into scores and the 5th-ranked Bears would go on to rout the Bulldogs 41-7 at Cunningham Stadium Friday night in WGOG’s Broadcast Game of the Week.  A Pendleton fumble at their own 20 yard line would lead to BHP’s first score, a 3 yard scoring run from Kory Thompson.  Thompson would score in the second quarter on a 14 yard run before Cam Blackburn gave Pendleton their lone touchdown.  A Colin Brady interception throw late in the half would lead to a BHP touchdown pass from Matt Williams to Anthony White to give the Bears the 20-7 halftime lead.  It was all BHP in the second half, as the Bears would score on a 13 yard run from Kory Thompson; a 51 yard run from Jermale Turner; and a Williams-to-Keinan Lewis TD pass, their third score of the night off a Pendleton turnover.  The Bears finished the night with 336 yards of offense to Pendleton’s 237.  Kory Thompson earned Player-of-the-game honors with his 24 carries for 166 yards and three touchdowns.  Williams finished the night 12-of-17 for 145 yards and three scoring strikes.  For Pendleton, the bright spot was Cam Blackburn who had 21 carries for 116 yards and a score.  Colin Brady was 4-for-10 with 69 yards passing on a night in which the Bulldog signal-caller seemed to be off-target for the most part.  Before the game, both teams met at midfield to pray for the family and friends of 16 year-old Ben Jordan, a BHP offensive lineman, who died Thursday night of a blood clot.

Elsewhere on Friday, Walhalla loses it’s first game of the season, falling to Liberty 44-35 in the Razor’s home opener.  Seneca lost a heart-breaker at Westside 32-31.  It gives former Walhalla coach John Boggs his first win at Westside.  Seneca and Walhalla will meet up at Bobcat Stadium next week in our Game of the Week, as Western AAA play gets underway.  West-Oak, who had the night off on Friday, will open region play next week at Daniel.
