Daniel defeats Wren in low scoring affair

In 96.3 WGOG’s Broadcast Game of the Week Friday, Daniel edged Wren 14-10 in Powdersville.  The game did not become the high scoring juggernaut expected, as both defenses played well, with the Lions getting the victory without the benefit of any second half points.  Clemson commit Jae’lon Oglesby garnered Player of the Game honors with 235 yards on 29 carries and both Daniel scores.  The highlight of the night was Oglesby’s 80 yard touchdown run from scrimmage late in the second quarter, just 15 seconds after a Wren field goal had tightened the game to 7-3.  The only score in the second half was a 5 yard TD run from Wren’s Levi Buford.   Daniel quarterback Andy McCall finished the night 9-for-12 with 121 yards and an interception.  Tyus Gaines led all receivers with 113 of those yards.  Wren’s Jacob Clary was 15-of-41 for 103 yards and two interceptions, one of which occurred in the closing minutes as the Hurricanes were driving through Daniel territory.  The turnover allowed the Lions to run out the clock for the win.  Daniel finished with 368 yards of total offense to Wren’s 171.  The win sets up a showdown next week for Western AAA supremacy between Daniel and BHP, who defeated West-Oak 51-7.  Our broadcast returns to Walhalla next week, where the Razorbacks will host Palmetto.  Walhalla dropped a 57-7 game to Emerald on Friday.  Seneca shut-out the Mustangs 28-0.  In Pendleton, Paul Sutherland’s Bulldogs lost to Crescent 20-10.  It marks Sutherland’s first loss to the Tigers, who are off to a 5-1 start.  Here’s a rundown of all the Upstate scores from Friday:
