Hiker wounded at Mountain Rest

A Blackhawk helicopter zipped east across the Walhalla sky late yesterday afternoon—transporting an injured hiker for medical treatment. Fire fighters, in their cross-training as medical responders, went to the assistance of a man said to have been the unintentional victim of a gun shot wound in the vicinity of SC 28 and Yellow Branch Falls. According to Scott Krein, director of Oconee Emergency Services, it became apparent quickly that because of the distance into the woods and the severity of the hiker’s injuries that he was a candidate to be hoisted out by the SC-HART Team.
