Hipps’ investigation at standstill, tips still welcome

Solicitor Chrissy Adams said this afternoon the criminal investigation of the death of Clemson student Tucker Hipps, after nearly a year, remains at a standstill.  That’s even though, Adams says, that the Oconee Sheriff’s Office has conducted a thorough investigation.  An account made public this week from a man who claims to have seen a student on the bridge railing  raised hope that his story might have been the lead to help solve the case.  But Adams, Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, and the attorney for one of the other fraternity members are discounting the man’s statements.  Some of those statements apparently are being incorporated into the civil lawsuit filed in the case against fraternity members, their fraternity chapter, and Clemson University.  But, in her statement this afternoon, Adams said, “The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has thoroughly investigated the statement made by the alleged witness that has come forward in the Tucker Hipps case….This individual does not recall what day he saw these students on the bridge….He recalls seeing these students wearing orange.  Tucker Hipps was wearing darker clothing at the time of his death.”
