Home fire near Seneca

Red Cross is assisting a family near Seneca after a fire early today at 5019 Forest Drive.  Around 3 this morning, fire fighters encountered a fire burning on one side of the house.  As many as 30 fire fighters were deployed from three departments, and they were able to stop the fire quickly.  They remained there for a few hours, dousing hot spots.  Oconee Emergency Services, Oconee Sheriff’s Office, and “SLED” are investigating for a cause. According to county Emergency Services, this was the third home fire of the week where there were no operating smoke detectors.  County Emergency Services will provide smoke detectors and install them free of charge to Oconee County residents. Residents should call 864-638-4200 to obtain the detectors.
