How well are the state police doing?

The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division is scheduled for an on-site assessment of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards. Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. As a part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling 1/866-3726 or 896-5427 or 896-7246 in Columbia on Monday, January 21 between the hours of 2 p-m and 4 p-m. Comments will be taken by the assessment team. Telephone comments are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the standards is available at the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division, 4400 Broad River Road, Columbia, S.C.
