How well Oconee Nuclear operated in 2015

In 2015, according to the federal government’s assessment, the Oconee Nuclear Station operated “in a manner that preserved public health and safety and protected the environment.”  As a result, the three nuclear units will continue to receive the routine or baseline inspections that all nuclear plants receive.  If members of the public have questions or comments about that, they have the chance to make them during a U-S Nuclear Regulatory Commission open house next week at Duke’s World of Energy.  From 5:30 to 6:30 pm Thursday, March 31, NRC resident inspectors and other staff members will be available to answer questions on the safety performance and regulator oversight at Oconee, as well to highlight NRC inspections.  The NRC uses color-coded inspection findings and performance indicators to assess plant performance.  The colors start with green, which has very low safety significance, and then progresses to white, yellow or red, based on the significance of the issues.  In 2015, all inspection findings and performance indicators for Oconee were green.
