From this day forward, Oconee Sheriff’s Department policy will be to ask the courts for the maximum fines and sentences for all domestic violence cases. Third-month Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says, “Domestic violence in Oconee County has a bad history.” He spoke on Friday, the day that Oconeeans were challenged to donate to a capital campaign to raise $990 thousand to build the county’s first shelter for the abused. The Safe Harbor organization hopes to have the shelter in place by 2015, or sooner.
