In excess of 100 thousand young people voted

An Oconee election observer last Saturday said he saw young people on their way by foot to one of the polling places.  And now a research and information center says more young voters cast votes in South Carolina’s Republican Presidential primary than the Democratic one.  That’s a first, according to an analysis by a non-partisan research center on youth engagement at Tufts University in Massachusetts.  Youth voting turnout overall was placed at 18%.  Though Hillary Clinton won decisively in South Carolina, young people 17-29 preferred Bernie Sanders 54% to 46%.  The analysis showed South Carolina’s young were less likely to support Donald Trump, at 26% comparedto 33% of all primary voters, and supported Ted Cruz as their top pick, with 28%.  Nearly 130 thousand young people went to the polls in South Carolina primaries.  The Republicans vote attracted an estimated 74 thousand young people.  Roughly 55 thousand young people voted in the Democratic primary.
