Jail tours start tomorrow

Public tours of Oconee’s new jail begin tomorrow morning, and Sheriff Mike Crenshaw invites everyone to have a look at what was once called “the biggest building the county will ever build.”  It sits on the grounds of the Oconee Law Enforcement Center on S. Church Street in Walhalla.  Tours tomorrow take place 10 a-m to noon and 3 to 6 p-m.  Tours are also planned Wednesday and Sunday.  If you have ever wanted to experience what it would be like to spend a night in a jail—without being charged—the Sheriff’s Office is offering that opportunity, also.  “If you would like to experience the feeling of incarceration and have never been arrested, contact Tonya Massey at the Sheriff’s Office at 864-638-4117 by 5 pm Monday, December 7th so we can check the level of interest,” Crenshaw said.
