Lori Chappelear: an ambassador

Oconee County teacher Lori Chappelear has been named South Carolina Ambassador for the National Down’s Syndrome Society. In that capacity, Chappelear will serve as liaison between the national society and the South Carolina General Assembly. She and her husband, Dan, have a son, Brock, who is a 15-year old student at Walhalla Middle School. The Chappelears made made it their mission to ensure Brock’s success, happiness and well-being by helping him to be an active member of his community, build relationships and to meet his goal of living independent one day. Lori Chappelear, a past “Hero of the Child” as awarded by then-Governor Jim Hodges, is known as a committed advocate for people with Down’s.
