Lost hikers safe but hungry

imageThree hikers who became disoriented during a hike on the Foothills Trail were found safe but hungry during the night between Upper Whitewater Falls and the Bad Creek area. It took an effort by responders from three counties working nearly four hours to locate and extract the hikers—one man and two women. According to Charlie King of Oconee Emergency Services, the group had gone about eight miles from their intended trail. It’s a reminder of the potential danger that surrounds scenic trails and waterfalls. King says, “Each group should be prepared with food, water, clothing and shelter for the trip. Local guide services and outfitters are available to assist visitors.”
