Major League Playoffs

The Detroit Tigers shut out the New York Yankees 3-0 on Sunday, taking a 2-0 American League Championship Series lead out of New York as the series switches to their home turf in Detroit for Game 3 of the best-of-seven series on Tuesday. Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez shut down the listless Yankee offense, one day after the team lost captain Derek Jeter to a season-ending ankle fracture. After the Tigers scored a run in the seventh inning, a missed call by an umpire on second base in the eighth led the Tigers to score their other two runs.  The defending world champion St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants 6-4 Sunday night in Game 1 of the best-of-seven National League Championship Series in San Francisco. Carlos Beltran and David Freese both hit two-run homers for St. Louis. Game 2 will be played Monday night in San Francisco.
