Man found to be O.K. at Sid Falls

Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King says a search and rescue operation was undertaken Saturday to locate a man missing in the Sid Falls area of Long Creek. At around 5:15 PM the 911 Center received a call from a man who was lost in one of the county’s more remote areas. King says “Phase 2” cell phone location technology was used to pinpoint the man’s location. Once on the scene, a search and medical team began hiking a three-mile trail in search of the man. After nearly two hours, in near-freezing temperatures, the 21 year-old was discovered. The man, who was taken to the Long Creek Fire Station for evaluation, was cold and wet, but not injured. King says the man is a student at Clemson University who was visiting the area for the first time.
