Marines’ motorcade returns Monday

The public has an invitation to fly the flag and wear patriotic colors next week when the U-S Marine Corps veterans’ motorcade passes through Pickens and Oconee counties. A total of 41 Marines will be on their way Monday afternoon for a few days of rest and relaxation on the lakes, rivers, and mountains.  Oconee families are welcoming the Marines into their homes from Monday to Thursday.  Duke Energy’s World of Energy at the Oconee Nuclear Station hosts the final leg of the motorcade procession, and the World of Energy is the place where the Marine veterans will meet their host families around 4 o’clock Monday afternoon.  Organizers are hoping the public will line the motorcade route.  The escorted motorcade departs Red Owens Field in Easley and enters U.S. 123 at Rock Springs Baptist Church at approximately 2:25 p.m. They will continue along 123 until entering S.C. 93, passing through Liberty, Norris and Central before re-entering U.S. 123 at the Publix ramp. The convoy loops past the traffic interchange at the Oconee Memorial Hospital and proceeds through Seneca on S.C. 130 to the Lake Keowee area.
