Mast-style poles too expensive for Walhalla, mayor says

Walhalla Mayor Danny Edwards says he would love to see mast-style traffic light fixtures as part of Streetscape, but the city simply can’t afford them.  In a 101.7/WGOG NEWS report last week a DOT spokesman gave a figure as to what they would cost, but Edwards this afternoon said the figures his city received, through its consultant company, run between $100 thousand and $125 thousand for each of the four blocks that are included in Streetscape.  Some Walhallans have said they thought that, like telephone and electric power lines, the electric lines for the traffic lights would be hidden in the long arms that are a feature of the mast-style poles.  But, as explained to 101/7/WGOG NEWS, by the Department of Transportation’s Pete Poore, there won’t be any major change to the existing traffic lights.  However, he indicated DOT would provide the mast-style poles if the city is willing to pay for them.
