“Minor Child vs. Oconee County School District”

Attorneys representing an Oconee public school student filed a damage suit today against the school district, alleging that the student was a victim of an initiation ritual in which older students restrained the younger boy, forced him to the back of a bus, and “aggressively touched” his buttocks.  At the time the boys were members of a Walhalla High soccer team and the alleged acts were committed last year on a bus ride back from a match at Pickens.  Anderson attorney Jennifer Spragins Burnett brought the lawsuit today in the Oconee Common Pleas Court on behalf of the parent of the alleged victim.  The suit requests a jury trial and alleges actual and punitive damages in excess of $100 thousand dollars.  Among the lawsuit’s allegations is that a teacher and two coaches were aboard the bus but did not come to the aid of the boy who screamed and begged the other players to stop.  “To cover the sound of the Plaintiff’s screaming,” according to the allegations, “other boys blared music loudly through a Bluetooth speaker.”
