Moore wants to swing the ax!

Landscape engineers will walk with Walhalla leaders a week from today over the entire four-block section of Main Street, as a way to get ready for the first phase of Streetscape. That first phase is to include the replacement of aging utilities lines beneath the street and sidewalks. James Moore, Walhalla’s public works director, recommended last night that his workers, as soon as possible, be allowed to cut down the Bradford Pear trees alongside Main—between Ann and Tugaloo. Some people love the trees, others despise them. But Moore says, to avoid the buckling of brick work and the sidewalks for Streetscape, the Bradford Pears have to go—sooner than later. But Mayor Danny Edwards said he’d like to wait until the last possible moment.
