Mopeds at night

The 2014 South Carolina legislative session is four months away, but an Oconee lawmaker already is thinking about a bill he hopes will make driving safer. At a meeting last night of the county Republican Party, State Representative Bill Whitmire says the bill he has in mind would address those who operate mopeds at night. A smattering of applause started to break out when Whitmire said, “I’ve got a real problem with mopeds driving down four-lane highways at 9 o’clock.” The District One representative conceded, however, his idea may be fraught with complications. “Most of these people driving mopeds are doing it for a reason. They either don’t have insurance or a driver’s license, and maybe they need to get to work,” he said.
