Need a cow?

Oconee Animal Shelter will begin accepting applications next week to adopt a cow that has been at the shelter for the past couple of weeks.  “About two weeks ago, the Highway Patrol investigated an accident on Highway 24 near Westminster in which a couple of vehicles hit a cow in the roadway,” according to Lt. Mark Lyles of the Sheriff’s Office.  “The cow died but its offspring was standing by its mother.  Animal Control took possession of the offspring at that point.”  No one came forward to claim ownership of the offspring.  Applications will be taken Monday, December 7 through Wednesday, December 9 at the shelter on the Sandifer Boulevard during normal business hours each day from 10 a-m until 4 p-m.  A drawing will be held 10 a-m Thursday, December 10 and the winner will be notified by telephone.  The only cost associated with the adoption will be a $200 dollar fee.  According to Lyles, the cow is a 750-pound Angus.
