New economy forces developers to be patient

An ambitious project envisioned for Oconee’s southern tip remains in the waiting stage for the necessary investment money. One of the developers said today said the reality of today’s economy forces them to stay patient. But El Henry told a large gathering at Seneca there have been some recent promising development. Expressions of interest, as Henry described them, with more “conversations” to follow. He said, “We’re very encouraged.” Henry and his partners are pursuing the development of a two-mile long peninsula on Lake Hartwell, at exit one in Fair Play. There, they hope to develop a 4-star hotel, 18-hole golf course, among other resort-like amenities. We caught up with Henry after he spoke to the State of Oconee luncheon—an event that attracted about 200 people.
