North Carolinian arrested at accident scene

The Walhalla police and the South Carolina Highway Patrol combined to place five charges against a Greensboro, North Carolina man who allegedly stole a car from a motel and wrecked it a short distance away. Capt. Curtis Rogers of the Walhalla Police said James Samuel Sams is accused Friday morning of taking a parked car at the Walhalla Motel and wrecking a short time later nearby on Collins Road near West Union. The Walhalla police charged the 37-year old Sams with grand larceny. Rogers says the car taken belonged to a co-worker of Sams. Among other charges, Sams was charged by the highway patrol with driving under the influence and hit-and-run driver involved in an accident with minor injury.
