OC re-ups with the NGA

Oconee County is planning to help welcome back next spring a National Golf Association qualifying tournament to Seneca’s Cross Creek golf course. Phil Shirley, director of Oconee’s PRT, says it is part of a running contract with the NGA. At Shirley’s request, the county Parks, Recreation and Tourism Commission today allocated$5 thousand dollars to the NGA as its share of a hosting fee. According to Shirley, what Oconee gets in return are golf games played by some rising stars of the sport, as well as a healthy boost to the economy in the form of hotel bookings, restaurant business, and other spending at the local level by the visitors.
