Oconee expansion OK’d for NEXT High School

NEXT High School has cleared a new hurdle to expand to serve students at the soon-to-be-closed Tamassee-Salem Middle/High School.  The board of the South Carolina Public Charter School District on Monday conditionally approved the needed amendment to NEXT’s charter.  The board of trustees for NEXT has set a goal of 215 enrolled students by the start of the school.  Zach Eikenberry, founding CEO, says the Salem expansion project, so far, has enrolled 125 students.  The town of Salem will hold possession of the school and intends to lease it to NEXT, if they are able to operate the school.  Enrollment at the Tamassee-Salem campus is open to any South Carolina students, as the state Public Charter School District does not follow traditional boundaries.  If demand exceeds available space, the school will hold a lottery to determine which students attend.  You can learn more about the project by visiting http://www.nexthighschool.org.
