Oconeean awarded scholarship

The valedictorian at the Oconee Christian Academy, Whitney Oakley, is in line for a scholarship from the South Carolina Association of Counties.  Each year the board of the organization awards four $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are residents of counties chosen by lot, and Oconee County was selected in this year’s draw. Applicants must plan to attend a South Carolina college/university or two-year technical college in the fall. Whitney will attend the Calhoun Honors College at Clemson University to major in microbiology. At the Oconee Christian Academy she has been the top student for her grade level since first grade. She has also completed eight college-level courses for 26 credit hours through Southern Wesleyan University and Tri-County Technical College.  Scholarship applicants must write an essay on their aspirations and goals. The selection is based on the essay, grades, school activities and community involvement.
