Oconeean Ritter a faithful blood donor

Governor Nikki R. Haley has proclaimed June as Blood Donor Appreciation Month and June 14, 2016, as World Blood Donor Day in South Carolina, as The Blood Connection joins other organizations in the US and around the world to celebrate people who save lives. “We want our blood donors to feel as special they are, for saving lives every day through generous blood donations,” said President and CEO Delisa English. “We also hope to inspire more people throughout the community to donate blood regularly, and often.” “Blood Connects Us All” is the theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day campaign and poignantly imagines the personal connection between a blood donor and a recipient. The Greenville Drive will also recognize blood donors at Fluor Field Tuesday night.  Governor Haley’s proclamation recognizes “blood donations of all kinds save lives in South Carolina” as she draws attention to the challenges of summer by encouraging “citizens to donate blood and ensure blood products are available for all who will need them.” Oconee County resident Roger Ritter is an example of someone who is a regular donor, every two weeks.  He’s motivated to help ease the world’s calamities when he sees the need for donors.  Transfusion of blood and blood products help save millions of lives every year. They help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality of life, and it supports complex medical and surgical procedures. In addition, blood has an essential, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care. But an adequate blood supply can only be assured through regular donations by voluntary blood donors. The Blood Connection maintains a center near Seneca on 123./the Sandifer Boulevard next to Lila Doyle nursing and rehabilitation center.
