Official qualifying opens Wednesday

Official qualifying for public office opens this week across South Carolina.  For Oconeeans and other state residents, the two-week period is the time for them to sign up to run in their year’s primary elections and to declare their party affiliation.  For Oconeeans, the place to sign up for various local and state offices is office of Registration and Elections at the county administrative complex in Walhalla.  There’s one exception:  For those running for 10th Circuit Solicitor, the office of the state Election Commission in Columbia accepts those candidacies.  The qualifying opens at noon, Wednesday, March 16 and closes at noon Wednesday, March 30.  Candidates should bring a check or money to cover their filing fee, which is based on a formula which county and state election workers can explain.
