OMC gets cardiac care kudos

Oconee Medical Center is not a heart-surgery hospital, but it does provide emergency diagnostic care and transport for patients in need of heart catherization. And, for the quality of those services, OMC is being recognized by the Greenville Health System Heart and Vascular Institute for ongoing excellence in the care of STEMI patients. According to Kent Whitten, Oconee EMS Director, STEMI is an acronym for ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction. Through investments in equipment and education, OMC paramedics can perform advanced cardiac diagnostics in the field, treat with medications, and move patients directly to cath labs within 90 minutes of reaching a patient’s side. In the Emergency Department, nurses are trained to triage patients and immediately start life-saving processes.
