On unanimous vote, third spec building OK’d

On a vote of 5-0, Oconee County Council agrees it’s time for the county to use some of its property for a spec building—which usually amounts to a shell of a building that the county markets to a manufacturing operation.  The county has built two such spec buildings in the past and both are occupied today as members of the local industrial community.  On a motion by District Three’s Paul Cain, the council agreed to designate property within its Information and Technology Park on highway 11 and apply for a construction loan through Santee Cooper, the state’s Public Service Authority.  The terms of such a loan are no interest for the first three years, prompting Chairman Wayne McCall to say, “You can’t beat interest-free money for a while.”
