One year later, Oconee awaits Michelin decision

One year later, Oconee County remains hopeful that the Michelin company will carry through with a purchase option agreement at the county’s Golden Corner Commerce Park.  But the county’s chief economic development recruiter, Richard Blackwell, says, “Unfortunately, nothing new on this front.  We are still engaged in active discussions with this project.”  A year ago today, an Anderson Independent story identified “Project Sarah” as a Michelin plant, and County Administrator Scott Moulder said the distribution center project would be the largest single investment for Oconee since the Duke Power project.  The prospects of a $250 million investment and jobs paying as much as $22.50 an hour became the “street talk” in Fair Play and in other parts of the county.
