Parade preparations

Traffic congestion and general public safety concerns are always issues during the busiest part of the annual South Carolina Apple Festival. Interim Police Chief Mike Crenshaw is making some announcements about events beginning tonight and continuing through Saturday. Sections of Main Street, from Alley Street to Lucky Street, will be closed for this evening’s fish fry at 5:30. An area for handicap parking has been designated at Dickson’s Tractor. The city has made contact with Norfolk Southern and the railroad has agreed to slow speeds to 25 miles an hour for trains passing through Friday and Saturday. And, of course, Friday—tomorrow afternoon—is time for the annual parade. Crenshaw says the parade begins promptly at 4:30, so it’s important for all entries to be in place by 4 o’clock.
