Pendleton rolls over Blacksburg; Oconee teams lose

A smothering defense, great field position for its offense, and the legs of Nicquan Ramsey, all helped the Pendleton Bulldogs claim a 55-14 win over Region 1-AA Blacksburg Friday night in 96.3 WGOG’s High School Football Game of the Week. Both teams entered the night looking for their first region win. Ramsey, a sophomore, was the WGOG/Blue Ridge Bank Player of the Game for his 174 yards and four touchdowns. Ramsey found the endzone on runs of 33, 2, 64, and 5 yards, all in the first half at Cunningham Stadium. Pendleton’s other scores came on a 31-yard pass from Gibson Black to Malik Grate; a 1-yard runs each from Darius Barksdale and Christian Gossett; and field goals from Alex Haynes and Joseph Burke.

Elsewhere, all three Oconee County teams were on the road Friday night, and all three returned with region losses. BHP blanked Walhalla 64-0. West-Oak led 10-0 early, but went on to lose at Emerald, 42-10. Seneca made a late comeback attempt before falling to Wren 43-24. Next week, West-Oak returns home to Warrior Field to face BHP. Walhalla is home against Emerald. And, Seneca will host winless Palmetto.
