Photo ID required to vote next month

Radio ads and street signs are reminders that election time is ahead for two of Oconee’s five municipalities. Voters in both Walhalla and Westminster are being asked to elect city council members Tuesday, November 5 during their municipal elections. What’s different this time is that those voters, to comply with a new law, are required to display official photo identification before they may cast ballots. So, it’s a good idea to plan now to have your photo I-D in your possession on the 5th of November, according to Joy Brooks, director of Oconee Elections. “If they don’t have one, between now and then is time to try to obtain one,” Brooks said. Several photo I-Ds are acceptable—such as a driver’s license, an official state-issued I-D, or a passport.
