Pickens man sentenced for crimes against infant

A 25-year old man in Pickens has been sent to jail for 14 years for crimes against a 10-day old infant.  The office of 13th Solicitor Walt Wilkins announced the sentence was handed down yesterday to Matthew Steven Pillon after he was convicted of unlawful neglect of a child, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and child abuse with great bodily injury.  Trial evidence established that, during a two-day period in 2013, the victim was admitted to a hospital pediatric unit and treated for body bruises, scratches to the face, and puncture to the pharynx that required a feeding tube.  Under the sentence pronounced by Judge Robin Stillwell, Pillon must serve nearly 12 years of the sentence before he becomes eligible for parole.
