PMPA group to press the flesh in Washington

A group representing Piedmont Municipal Power Agency makes its annual trek early next week to Washington, D-C.  Coleman Smoak, PMPA general manager, says this trip allows board members and others to catch up on various issues at the federal level that are important to the delivery of electric power to the 10 cities, including Westminster, who form the PMPA membership.  The chief issue that the PMPA group wants to discuss with the state’s elected leaders in Washington is the possibility that the federal government might start to tax the use of municipal bonds—the vehicle that municipal and county governments use to pay for infra-structure projects.  Westminster Mayor Brian Ramey, a member of the PMPA board, will not be part of next week’s trip, but he mentioned the trip during comments at city council’s February meeting.
