Poker run aspect removed from Rotary fundraiser

An Attorney’s General opinion forced the Seneca Rotary Club to remove the poker run component from its recent fundraiser at Lake Keowee. Nonetheless, the club reports success in raising nearly $17 thousand for its education programs and community grants for non-profit organizations. According to the Rotary announcement, “The Seneca Rotary Club encountered a dilemma just weeks before the event when they were informed about an opinion from the Attorney General that Poker Runs were illegal in the State of South Carolina. With two weeks until the event, the Rotary Club decided to remove the poker aspect from the event and replace it with raffle tickets.” More than 50 boats took part in the fundraiser. Motorcycles and vehicles followed a scenic route around the lake. “The Rotary Club is hopeful to return to its original Poker Run aspect next year,” the announcement states.
