Red Flag lifted statewide

The Red Flag Fire Alert, in force since Saturday morning, is now lifted by the South Carolina Forestry Commission. Fire managers ended the alert based on improving weather conditions. Calmer winds and higher relative humidity means fire is less likely to spread. But the Southeast is in the midst of wildfire season and care should be taken with all outdoor burning. During the alert, state forestry commission personnel responded to 51 fires statewide. No injuries were reported. SC law requires anyone planning to conduct debris burns or controlled burns to notify the commission in advance.
