Report on asbestos removal sent to DHEC

A report on the recently removed asbestos on Seneca’s Kellett property has been sent by the city to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control, and utilities director Bob Faires says the city has been told the report will be filed and to expect no further followup from the health authorities.  The city hired a company to remove the asbestos and a second company to monitor its removal.  The discovery of buried asbestos on the property that the city acquired years ago from the school district raised concerns on the part of nearby residents, and the question arose as to who buried the asbestos.  Faires said yesterday the city’s investigation of city employees was handled “internally.”
