Road Conditions deteriorating

WGOG’s has received word of a number of accidents in Oconee County as the road conditions continue to deteriorate this afternoon. Around 4:30 this afternoon, the Highway Patrol was reporting accidents on Long Creek Highway, Dr. Johns Road, Highlands Highway and Highway 11. Details of the accidents were not immediately available.

The Highway Patrol also is also reporting ice and snow on the roadways on Highway 28 (Highlands Highway) and also on the Bountyland Road.

Motorists are urged to stay home if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, motorists are urged to provide extra time to arrive at the destination and maintain a longer distance between you and the driver ahead of you. Officials also urge motorists to have blankets and water in their vehicle in the event they become stranded.

The upstate is under a Winter Weather Advisory until 9 am Wednesday. Officials expect road conditions to worsen overnight as the temperature drops to below the freezing mark.
